Traveling is something that I love to do and keeps me curious and grounded. From a luxurious resort in the Caribbean to a little cafe in a coastal New England town, I would love to share some of the places that have given me joy....and who doesn't need a little joy?
Travel far enough to find yourself.

Welcome...I'm so glad you're here!
"There comes a time when you no longer need to prove, chase, or please. You simply feel the shift—the knowing that your true north is calling...and this time, you’re brave enough to follow." — Rita Kelley
My name is Rita and I’m the creator of Following My Own True North.
As as "Gen Xer" who has experienced love, divorce, grief and lots of everything in between, I hope this is a place where you find joy, a little positivity, or a tidbit of useful (or useless!) knowledge. It might be a blog post that sparks your curiosity about life or it might be daydreaming while reading about one of my travel destinations. Whatever it is that you find here, if you arrived "half empty" I hope you leave "half full".
If there's anything I've learned, finding your true north often happens when life nudges (or shakes) you out of autopilot — through burnout, endings, transitions, or mid-life re-evaluation. It’s a return to alignment: when how you live, love, and choose begins to match what your soul has been quietly craving all along — AND that it's never too late to take charge of your own happiness and start over.
